Your 'own' shop in the slums

Bisti lives in one of the uncountable slums in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. Her drug-addicted husband has left her and her two children without any financial support. With no income her life was virtually unbearable.

Luckily Bisti got the chance to get a starting budget and started her own little grocery shop in the middle of the slum area she lives in. After two months she was already earning a gross profit of € 25 a day, with which she can now support her family by herself.

Talented youngsters
Bisti got a chance and opportunity. 1We - One World Experience would like to give more talented youngsters in development countries the opportunity to start their own slum shop. A starting budget of € 600 is enough to start a shop in the slums and to make a real difference to young entrepreneurs. For the local people to receive ownership of the complete venture 50% of the investment has to be repaid within two years. 1We will re-invest the repayments towards the start up of more mini enterprises with the same concept.

Target
The target of the 1We Slum Shops is threefold:
• Stimulating entrepreneurship amongst the most talented youngsters so that the entire family can be supported in one transaction.
• By creating job opportunities (resulting in a sustainable and steady income) education for the family could be guaranteed.
• Creating awareness amongst European entrepreneurs and to stimulate them to support their ‘own’ shop in the slums.

By connecting an entrepreneur from the developed world as a sponsor to a young entrepreneur from the Third World mutual respect and responsibility will grow. On top of that the new generation in development countries will be stimulated to create their own opportunities and to be responsible for their own future.
